The Fate of Spring
by Eva Huffaker
The ice is beginning to recede,
and the crisp breeze rustles through the trees.
Birds call to one another,
sharing what they see.
The scent of spring is in the air.
The sun is hiding behind a sky full of clouds,
snow is still strewn across the ground.
There are no animals waking up from hibernation,
they do not make a sound.
Is spring on its way?
Although there are clouds covering the sun,
that does not mean spring won’t come.
Eva Huffaker, age 16, wrote this poem while studying at Conserve School in Land O'Lakes, Wisconsin.
